Abstract. The authors of this article examine the evolution of problem-based learning ideas, explain the concept of “problem-based learning,” describe the functions, levels, and methods of problem-based learning, outline the importance of using a problem-based approach in teaching geography, and provide examples of topics using problem-based learning for seventh-grade students. Based on materials by M. I. Makhmutov, I. V. Dushina, and G. A. Ponurova, a bank of problematic questions for 7th grade geography has been developed and proposed, as well as questions and structures for studying the topic “Australia.”
