The Festival of National Cultures as a Continuation and Development of Domestic Pedagogical Traditions

Abstract: The article addresses the problem of fostering interethnic harmony among schoolchildren. It substantiates the relevance of the proposed topic and provides a brief overview of perspectives on this issue during the Soviet and post-Soviet periods. The article presents the practice of holding a Festival of National Cultures within a general education institution. It provides the programmes of this event over several years, based on the experience of a specific educational institution — State Budgetary General Educational Institution Lyceum No. 590 of the Krasnoselsky District of Saint Petersburg. Additionally, the article describes the process of implementing educational work aimed at developing students’ respectful attitudes towards the diverse cultures of our country and towards each other. The conclusion emphasises the necessity of conducting such work based on the existing traditions of domestic education, while adapting these programmes and approaches appropriately to contemporary realities.
