Ostapenko, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor at Kuban State University and Yekaterinodar Theological Seminary, Krasnodar Konstantin V. Zelinsky, Archpriest, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Head of the Department of Religious Education and Catechesis of the Uryupinsk Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church, Volgograd Region Abstract: The article is devoted to the analysis of the ideological split in Russian society and pedagogy, based on the opposition of Orthodox and Soviet identities. Through a comparative analysis of two pedagogical strategies — focused on the spiritual ascent of the personality of the Orthodox model and aimed at the formation of a "new man" of the Soviet system — their structural kinship and key differences are revealed. Soviet pedagogy is considered as a secular surrogate of the Orthodox, retaining its basic elements, but devoid of a spiritual foundation. A "great synthesis" is proposed as a solution, combining the spiritual ideals of Orthodoxy, the social practices of the Soviet era and modern civic values. Keywords: Orthodox pedagogy, Soviet pedagogy, education, synthesis, mentoring, spiritual ideal, secularization
