Abstract: The history of the creation and functioning of the first children’s health and recreation camps, especially on the example of a multinational and multicultural region rich in history and traditions, is of scientific interest and practical significance, is an invaluable pedagogical experience and a kind of laboratory of forms and methods of educational activities of modern children and adolescents. Based on the analysis of various sources, personal experience in various organizations of children’s recreation, interviews with camp workers, the history of one of the first camps on the southwestern coast of the Black Sea of the Crimean peninsula, its main stages of formation and development are recreated. Recommendations for improving educational activities are offered based on the analysis of the existing experience of children’s recreation and recreation for children “ART-QUEST” in the city of Saki, Republic of Crimea, which has absorbed the values, traditions, technologies and working methods of the Artek MDC and the Orlyonok VDC.
