Abstract. The article reveals the didactic-methodological potential of the game as a multifaceted type of activity in the process of training, education and development of younger schoolchildren. The author considers the specifics of the game in the formation of cognitive interest, cognitive activity and cognitive activity of younger schoolchildren from the standpoint of one of the most important regulatives of the active position of the child. The author’s point of view is confirmed in the article by the concepts of the leading teachers A. S. Makarenko, D. B. Elkonin, and others. The functions of the game are described in the process of socializing a child and integrating it into a system of real socializing relations.
