Abstract. The genesis of the concept of «authoritarianism», borrowed in the 1990s from social psychology to describe the negative style of pedagogical communication and then became the excuse for revising the status of a teacher and student in relation to their right to set educational goals. Borrowing prototypes of models of the educational process that do not rely on the authority of the teacher and do not perform the functions of transferring traditional moral values from outside the mainstream school. Alternatives to the «pedagogy of authoritarianism» and the dubiousness of the pre-revolutionary ideas of «free education» are essentially consonant with postmodern anti-pedagogy.

Keywords: authoritarianism, the styles of pedagogical communication, free education, pedagogy of authority, support pedagogy, postmodernism, anti-pedagogy.
