What is the English for “единый государственный экзамен”? (problems of rendering nationally specific terminology in the translation)
Abstract: The article is dealing with the term denoting the Russian Statе exams taken by school leavers, in Russian, called “ЕГЭ”. The term has been rendered into English in more than one way which gave rise to the issue of accuracy and adequacy in translating terms denoting national cultural phenomena. The article studies the existing and the most frequent translations of the term with a view to justify the most adequate translation.
